This is the moment police recovered a blood-stained knife from the home of the main suspect in the brutal murder of a mother and daughter in Mijas.
The weapon was discovered during a search of the suspect’s apartment in Malaga’s Teatinos district on Thursday and has now been sent for forensic analysis.
Investigators will examine it for fingerprints, DNA and other evidence to determine whether it was used in the fatal stabbings.
Officers additionally seized clothing believed to have been worn by the suspect on the night of the killings, along with footwear and other items that could help reconstruct the events leading up to the deaths.
The search took place after the man, who is the partner of the 61-year-old mother, was arrested at around 1pm on Thursday.
After several hours of questioning at the Guardia Civil headquarters, he was taken to his home under judicial supervision while officers carried out the search.
The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murdering both women, whose bodies were found inside a two-storey home on Calle Tulipán in the Las Lagunas area of Mijas.
Emergency services were initially called to the property following reports of a fire.
However, once inside, investigators discovered that both victims had died violently after suffering multiple stab wounds.
The victims, both Spanish nationals, have been formally identified as a 61-year-old mother and her adult daughter, aged 31.
The investigation continues.
