This is the moment streets were turned into rivers in parts of Almeria on Saturday following the arrival of DANA Adam.
Flooding left vehicles trapped and water pouring into properties, prompting an emergency response and a mass warning to mobile phones.
Andalucia’s 112 service coordinated almost 100 incidents during Saturday afternoon’s downpours, with the Poniente area and El Ejido particularly affected.
Reports included overflowing ramblas, flooded ground-floor businesses and basements, and vehicles stranded by water accumulating on roads.
In Huercal de Almeria, footage showed muddy torrents sweeping through streets and entering garages, carrying belongings with them.
The Junta escalated its flood response plan to emergency phase, operational level one, as conditions deteriorated.
A red warning for extraordinary danger covered Poniente and Almeria city until 4.59pm, before giving way to an orange warning for the remainder of the day.
At 3.31pm, authorities sent an ES-Alert notification in Spanish and English to mobile phones in the affected areas.
The message warned of the red rainfall alert and urged people to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary journeys and follow advice from emergency services.
According to information provided by 112 to EFE, incidents were concentrated particularly from 2pm onwards.
Authorities have warned residents not to enter flooded roads or attempt to cross watercourses in vehicles.
Anyone whose home begins flooding should move to a higher part of the building and avoid basements and garages, where water can rise rapidly.
People should stay away from ramblas and river channels, follow emergency instructions and call 112 if there is immediate danger.
