A 90-year-old woman in a wheelchair was violently robbed in the middle of the night in Mijas, sparking local outrage.
The incident took place at around midnight in the Las Lagunas area, near Calle San Javier.
Officers from Policia Local de Mijas happened to be on patrol when a resident raised the alarm.
According to witnesses, a man crossed the road and targeted the elderly woman, forcibly snatching her handbag after a struggle.
The victim, described as being of very advanced age and with reduced mobility, was left distressed as the attacker fled the scene along Calle Veronica.
Rapid police response
Neighbours rushed to assist the woman while officers immediately launched a search operation, calling in additional units to track down the suspect.
Within minutes, the man was located between Calle Veronica and Calle Azucena. Upon spotting police, he attempted to escape on foot but was quickly intercepted.
A search of the suspect uncovered personal documents, bank and health cards, and other items believed to belong to the victim.
Arrest and recovery of stolen items
The man was arrested on suspicion of robbery with violence and intimidation and later transferred to the Guardia Civil for further processing and judicial proceedings.
Before being taken into custody, he was treated at a health centre so a medical report could be completed.
Police also checked on the condition of the victim, who fortunately did not suffer serious injuries despite the ordeal.
Her daughter was contacted and attended the scene, confirming that the recovered items belonged to her mother.
