An easyJet flight from the UK declared an emergency after smoke was reported in the cabin as it approached Malaga airport on Monday.

The Airbus A320 was travelling from Bristol (BRS) to Malaga (AGP) when the alert was raised during its approach to the Costa del Sol.

According to information released by Spanish air traffic controllers, emergency procedures were activated following the report of smoke on board.

Despite the scare, the aircraft was able to land safely and cleared the runway without incident.

Flight-tracking information identified the aircraft as an Airbus A320-214, registration G-EZUL, operated by easyJet.

Air traffic controllers said: ‘An easyJet flight arriving at Malaga declared an emergency due to smoke in the cabin.

‘The corresponding procedures were activated and the aircraft landed and vacated the runway without incident.’

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

It remains unclear what caused the reported smoke or whether any technical fault was subsequently discovered aboard the aircraft.

An Easyjet spokesperson told the Spanish Eye: ‘Flight EZY2715 from Bristol to Malaga on 7 September requested an expedited landing due to a suspected technical issue.

‘The aircraft landed safely and was met by emergency services as a routine and precautionary measure only.  All passengers disembarked as normal.

‘The safety of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.’
