Pensioners in Andalucia will be able to start booking heavily subsidised holidays across Spain from September 14 as the latest season of the country’s popular Imserso tourism programme gets underway.
The 2026-27 programme offers a total of 879,213 places, ranging from beach holidays on the Spanish mainland and islands to cultural tours and nature breaks.
Around half of the places are for destinations along mainland Spain’s coast, while approximately 25% are for hotels and apartments in the Balearic and Canary Islands.
The remainder are dedicated to shorter breaks, including cultural circuits, visits to provincial capitals and nature-based trips.
Bookings will open through participating travel agencies for people who have received confirmation authorising them to take part in the programme, including both first-time applicants and pensioners who have travelled through Imserso in previous years.
How much do the holidays cost?
Prices vary considerably depending on the destination, length of the trip, season and whether transport is included.
A four-day break in a Spanish provincial capital starts from €132.91, while an eight-day holiday on the mainland coast including transport starts from €244.04.
A 10-day trip to the Balearic Islands with transport starts at €353.37, while an equivalent 10-day holiday in the Canary Islands starts from €464.72.
Travelling during high season carries an additional €100 supplement.
There is also a €100 surcharge for a person’s second and each subsequent Imserso holiday during the same season.
Trips to mainland coastal destinations and the islands generally last between eight and 10 days, while cultural and nature breaks typically run for between four and six days.
Who can take part?
The Imserso tourism programme is primarily aimed at older people and pensioners covered by Spain’s Social Security system.
Eligible groups include Spanish retirement pensioners, widow’s pension recipients aged 55 or over, other pensioners and people receiving unemployment benefits aged 60 or above, and Social Security insured persons or beneficiaries aged at least 65.
Eligible travellers can also be accompanied by their spouse or partner even if that person does not independently meet the programme’s age or pension requirements.
Children with a disability of at least 45% can also accompany participants under the conditions established by the programme.
Pets have also been permitted on certain Imserso trips since 2025.
Thousands of holidays available for just €50
One of the programme’s most eye-catching measures is also returning for the 2026-27 season.
A total of 7,447 places will be available for just €50 to pensioners with the lowest incomes.
They are reserved for people whose financial resources are equal to or below the level of Spain’s non-contributory pensions, with places allocated to those receiving the highest scores under the programme’s assessment system.
The measure was introduced for the previous season and has been retained for 2026-27.
Eligible pensioners in Andalucia will be able to begin making their reservations from September 14.
