Fuengirola has installed 11 new speed cameras as part of a wider road safety campaign.

Three of the cameras are typical speed cameras capable of issuing fines, while eight are mobile ‘educational’ speed cameras.

The town hall said the move is aimed at slowing traffic and improving pedestrian safety.

Where are the new speed cameras?

The three new permanent speed cameras have been installed in Avenida Ramon y Cajal, at the junction with Calle San Jose, Avenida de Las Gaviotas and on the Paseo Maritimo, at the corner with Calle General Rodrigo.

They join the three permanent speed cameras already operating in Fuengirola, effectively doubling the number of fixed speed enforcement points across the town.

Councillor for Mobility Isabel Gonzalez said the new cameras respond to changing traffic patterns and are designed to improve safety on some of the municipality’s busiest roads.

What are the educational speed cameras?

Alongside the enforcement cameras, Fuengirola has also installed eight so-called ‘educational’ speed cameras.

Unlike traditional speed cameras, these devices do not issue fines. Instead, they display a driver’s speed in real time to encourage motorists to slow down and comply with the speed limit.

The educational cameras are mobile and will be moved to different locations every few weeks depending on traffic levels, road safety concerns and requests from local residents.

The aim is to target areas where speeding has become a particular issue while reminding drivers to reduce their speed.

The new devices form part of Fuengirola’s wider traffic management network, which already includes more than 200 cameras monitored by the Local Police.
