This is the moment a car being transported on the back of a lorry burst into flames while travelling on the AP-7 motorway on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were first alerted at around 1pm, after the vehicle caught fire while travelling towards Algeciras.
According to the Policia Nacional, one of the electric vehicles on board is believed to have ignited, although the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Part of the motorway had to be closed off while firefighters tackled the blaze.
By around 2.30pm, traffic authorities had reopened two of the motorway’s three lanes, with only the right-hand lane remaining closed.
However, the disruption led to queues stretching for around 3.5km, with motorists urged to drive carefully and follow instructions from emergency personnel and electronic road signs.
It came just hours after a woman was fatally mowed down on another section of the A-7 near La Cala de Mijas.
The collision happened at around 5.20am, with witnesses reporting that the driver failed to stop after the impact.
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the fatal collision and is searching for the vehicle involved, which witnesses described as either a large van or a lorry.
Meanwhile, two people were injured in a separate road traffic collision near Coin on Monday morning.
The crash occurred at around 6.20am on the MA-3400, where two vehicles collided.
Firefighters were called to free one person trapped inside a vehicle, while two men, aged 79 and 25, were taken to Malaga’s Hospital Clinico for treatment.
