A senior Dutch police officer has arrived in Estepona as part of a European exchange programme aimed at strengthening cooperation between the continent’s law enforcement agencies.
Brigadier Mario C., from the Dutch National Police, will spend the next two weeks working alongside the Policia Nacional.
He will gain first-hand experience of their policing methods, operational procedures and day-to-day work.
The exchange was announced by Estepona Town Hall, which welcomed the officer and said the visit is designed to encourage closer collaboration between European police forces.
During his stay, the Dutch officer will shadow officers at the National Police station in Estepona, learning how they tackle crime, respond to incidents and coordinate policing operations in one of Spain’s busiest tourist destinations.
The initiative forms part of a wider European cooperation programme that allows officers from different countries to share expertise, exchange best practices and build stronger international links.
Estepona’s National Police regularly deal with cases involving foreign nationals, including many from northern Europe, making international cooperation an increasingly important part of policing on the Costa del Sol.
The town hall said the visit would help both forces gain a better understanding of each other’s working methods while strengthening ties between Spain and the Netherlands.
The exchange comes as police across Europe continue to increase cross-border cooperation to tackle organised crime, drug trafficking, cybercrime and other offences that frequently span multiple countries.
