A waiter has been arrested in the centre of Malaga after allegedly being caught selling cocaine to customers.
Local police officers were carrying out routine surveillance in the historic centre on Thursday night when they noticed the employee behaving suspiciously while speaking with a tourist.
Police said the holidaymaker took out some cash before returning to his table and leaving the bar alongside the waiter.
Officers followed the pair to the junction of Calle Carreteria and Calle Alamos, where they say they witnessed a drug deal unfold.
According to investigators, the waiter entered a parked car, handed over the cash and received a small bag containing what officers believe was cocaine.
Both the waiter and the driver of the vehicle were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.
The incident is the latest in a series of street-level cocaine sales detected by Malaga’s Local Police in the historic centre, particularly in areas popular with tourists.
In a separate operation, officers monitoring the area reportedly witnessed another suspected drug deal involving a foreign tourist.
Police said a man approached a visitor before leading him to the entrance of a nearby establishment, where he briefly went inside before returning and allegedly handing over a white substance.
When he realised police were nearby, the suspect threw the substance onto the ground.
The buyer, a 30-year-old Italian tourist visiting Malaga, admitted he had just purchased cocaine for €20 and told officers the dealer had previously offered him drugs.
