Tributes have poured in following the sudden death of Martin Joseph, a hugely popular British entertainer on the Costa del Sol.
Friends, fellow performers and fans have spoken of their shock and heartbreak after news emerged that the singer passed away on May 31 following a short illness.
According to his family, the 69-year-old died at the Costa del Sol Hospital after battling a sudden infection that led to complications in both lungs.
His wife Joanna McCafferty said: ‘It is with complete devastation and heartbreak that I tell you Martin Joseph, my darling husband, my love, best friend and a much loved father to our daughter passed away peacefully early this morning in the Costa del Sol Hospital.
‘He bravely fought with the doctors a sudden, short, intense infection with complications in both lungs, he has never smoked.
‘I know so many of you will be so sad to hear this news. He was still singing a couple of weeks ago. It is unbelievable.
‘Family and friends please PM me if you would like news of when the funeral will be, when we know. My daughter and I appreciate your support and kindness and would like some peace to mourn our huge loss. Thank you.’
Known for his smooth vocals, Rat Pack performances and appearances at weddings, hotels and exclusive events across southern Spain, Martin had built a reputation as one of the coast’s most recognisable entertainers. He was still performing just weeks before his death.
On Facebook, tributes poured in from friends and colleagues who had shared the stage with him over the years.
Jesus Leon, a fellow musician, described Martin as a close friend and musical partner.

‘I still can’t believe it. My friend and musical companion Martin Joseph passed away this morning. I truly have no words to express what I feel because I shared unforgettable moments with him, along with many songs we created together.’
Allison Harris also paid an emotional tribute, writing: ‘Very early this morning we lost our great friend, Martin, and life without him will never quite be the same.’
She added: ‘The entertainment family on the Costa have lost one of their own and it really is a sad day.’
Martin was perhaps best known for his acclaimed Frank Sinatra tribute act. Described on his website as one of Europe’s leading Rat Pack performers, he spent years entertaining audiences across Spain, the UK and Europe with his interpretations of Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
Originally from the UK, Martin had been based on the Costa del Sol for many years and became a hugely popular choice for weddings across southern Spain.
His website states that he performed at hundreds of weddings over the past 15 years in Spain, as well as events in England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France, Sweden, Gibraltar and Belgium.
He was a regular performer at prestigious venues including the Marbella Club and appeared in touring productions celebrating the life and music of Frank Sinatra.
Clients frequently praised not only his voice but also his warmth and professionalism.
One wedding testimonial described him as ‘the perfect touch’ to a special day, while another said guests were still talking about his performance long afterwards.
He is survived by his wife Joanne and daughter Katie.
