The Dutch estate agent who plunged to her death while preparing for a viewing in Granada has been named locally as Danielle Gouwens.
Danielle owned the estate agency At Home In Andalucia, which helped buyers, particularly from the expat community, find the perfect property in the Lecrin Valley.
In a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, the company revealed that Danielle, described as an animal lover, fell through the attic while letting a bird out.
The tribute read: ‘It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved Danielle Gouwens, owner of At Home in Andalucia, passed away on Saturday May 17, 2026 following a tragic accident the previous day.
‘Danielle suffered a fall on Friday while letting a bird out of an attic room ahead of a client viewing – an act that was so typically Danielle, whose love for animals was known by everyone who knew her.
‘Danielle was deeply loved by her family, friends, colleagues, and the many clients whose lives she touched over the years.
‘She was a truly kind soul whose work as an estate agent in the Lecrin Valley was always personal, caring, and genuine. She went above and beyond for every client, and many became lifelong friends.’

It added: ‘Yesterday, Danielle was laid to rest in her home village of Restabal, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.
‘Over the coming weeks, Catherine and Danielle’s associates will be dealing with enquiries and ongoing affairs as we all try to come to terms with this enormous loss.
‘We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has reached out with messages of support, kindness, and sympathy. Your words have meant a great deal to us during this incredibly difficult time.
‘We are all still in shock and ask for patience and understanding as we navigate the weeks ahead.
‘Danielle will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered always.’
