A woman has been found dead near a sports complex in Mijas after emergency services were alerted by local residents.

The body was discovered last Tuesday morning by the Juan Roa sports centre in the Osunillas area, according to local reports.

The alarm was raised at around 9.10am, prompting a response from Andalucía’s 112 emergency service.

Paramedics, along with officers from the Guardia Civil and local police, were dispatched to the scene.

However, upon arrival, they were unable to assist the woman, who had already died.

The deceased is believed to be an elderly Ukrainian woman who lived in the area.

Early indications suggest the death may have been a suicide, although authorities have stressed that this has not yet been confirmed.

A post-mortem examination will determine the exact cause of death.
