A series of weather alerts have been issued for holiday hotspots in Spain this week.

State weather agency Aemet is warning of severe winds and intense rainfalls on Wednesday.

In the southern half of the Costa Blanca, which includes Benidorm, a yellow alert for gales of up to 70km/hr will be in effect between 4am and 11.59am tomorrow.

The entire province of Almeria faces the same alert, with extra warnings placed on its coastline, which could see three-metre waves thanks to 60km/hr cross winds.

Aemet alerts work on a traffic light system of yellow, orange and red, with the latter the most dangerous and signifying an ‘extreme risk’ to safety.

Meanwhile, the Balearic Islands will face yet another day of intense rain and storms.

Mallorca and Menorca are under a yellow alert until 8pm Wednesday, with Aemet predicting 30mm of rainfall within an hour.

Ibiza is facing the same conditions, although the alert will be deactivated at the earlier time of 11.59am.

However, unlike its sister islands, the party isle could see hail stones.

All three Balearic Islands will see thunderstorms alongside the rain on Wednesday.
