A road rage driver accused of stabbing a pedestrian with a fishing hook and leaving him pinned to a railing has been jailed.

The suspect was held without bail on Friday after appearing before a judge over the horrific attack, which took place in the Lancha del Genil area of Granada city on Monday night.

According to the Policia Local, the incident began at around 10.45pm when a couple were at a pedestrian crossing.

A white vehicle allegedly came close to hitting them after failing to stop, prompting the male pedestrian to confront the driver over his manoeuvre.

But rather than driving away or apologising, the motorist allegedly stopped his vehicle, got out and went to the boot.

He is accused of retrieving a large metal fishing hook before approaching the pedestrian.

The suspect then allegedly plunged the hook into the victim’s arm and left him attached to a nearby railing, rendering him unable to move.

Emergency medical workers from 061 were called to treat the injured man at the scene, but firefighters were also required because of the way he had been trapped.

They were forced to cut through the metal hook with bolt cutters to free him from the railing.

The victim was then taken to hospital with part of the metal object still embedded in his arm, where doctors were tasked with removing it.

Police were able to identify the alleged attacker after examining CCTV footage from the area.

When they contacted him by telephone, he allegedly refused to reveal where he was.

Instead, he vowed to present himself at a Policia Nacional station.

The suspect remained at large for around two days while negotiations with police continued.

He finally handed himself in on Wednesday.

He will remain in prison until his next court appearance.
