A series of heat alerts have been issued across Andalucia on Sunday as temperatures are set to soar to 40C.
State weather agency Aemet has placed six provinces under orange and yellow warnings as another blast of heat grips the south.
The most serious warnings are in Sevilla, Cordoba and Jaen, where temperatures are forecast to reach 40C.
All three orange alerts will be in force between 1pm and 8.59pm.
In the Sevilla countryside (Campiña sevillana), AEMET is forecasting maximum temperatures of 40C, triggering an orange warning for ‘significant risk’.
The countryside around Cordoba (Campiña cordobesa) is also under an orange alert, with the mercury similarly expected to peak at 40C.
The Guadalquivir Valley in Jaen completes the trio of areas facing the highest level of heat warning on Sunday, with another maximum of 40C forecast.
Up to 39C in Cadiz
It will also be extremely hot further south.
Aemet has placed the Cadiz countryside (Campiña gaditana) under a yellow warning, where temperatures could reach 39C.
Meanwhile, the Genil Basin (Cuenca del Genil) is under a yellow heat warning as temperatures are forecast to climb to 38C.
The majority of Huelva province is under the same yellow warning.
All warnings will also operate between 1pm and 8.59pm.
People in the affected areas are advised to take particular care during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary strenuous activity during periods of extreme heat.
