A series of yellow and orange heat alerts have been issued across Andalucia for Tuesday.
It comes as temperatures in the region are climbing back towards 40C ahead of another nationwide heatwave.
The warnings will be in force from 1pm until 8.59pm on Tuesday, July 28.
The highest-level orange (‘important risk’) alerts have been activated for:
- Campiña Sevillana (Seville province): Up to 40C
- Campiña Cordobesa (Cordoba province): Up to 40C
- Valle del Guadalquivir de Jaen: Up to 40C
- Cazorla y Segura (Jaen province): Up to 40C
Meanwhile, yellow alerts have been issued for:
- Cuenca del Genil (Granada province): Maximum of 39C, with temperatures locally reaching 40C
- Poniente de Almeria and Almeria city: Up to 37C
The warnings come as Aemet has confirmed that Spain’s fourth heatwave of the summer will begin on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to rise steadily over the coming days and exceed 40C across much of southern Spain.
Forecasters expect the Guadalquivir Valley to be among the hottest parts of the country this week, while the prolonged spell of hot, dry weather is also expected to increase the risk of wildfires.
