Speed cameras generated tens of millions of euros in fines across Malaga province last year, new figures have revealed.
According to a report by motorists’ organisation Automovilistas Europeos Asociados (AEA), the DGT handed out sanctions worth €28.39million in Malaga during 2025.
The final amount paid through fines was €12.64million. This is because drivers are often given a 50% discount if they pay promptly.
Speeding tickets represented almost 45% of all traffic fine revenue collected by the DGT in the province.
Nationally, AEA said speed cameras generated a record €246.8million last year – a 14% increase on 2024.
The organisation argued the rise was not due to motorists driving more dangerously, but to the installation of more speed cameras by the DGT.
‘The enforcement machine has become so precise that speeding fines now account for 41.5% of all traffic fine revenue across Spain,’ the association said, excluding Catalonia and the Basque Country, where traffic enforcement is managed separately.
Two of Spain’s seven busiest speed cameras are in Malaga
The report also identifies Spain’s most prolific speed cameras – and two of the country’s top seven are located on the A-7 in Malaga province.
The busiest is at kilometre 968 in Rincon de la Victoria, which issued 45,050 speeding tickets in 2025, making it the fifth most active speed camera in Spain.
Although it remains one of the country’s biggest fine generators, the figure represents a significant fall from the 67,502 tickets issued there in 2024.
Another A-7 camera, located at kilometre 978 on the eastern approach into Malaga city, ranked seventh nationally, issuing 42,088 fines last year – up from 33,358 the previous year.
A third Malaga speed camera also appears in AEA’s annual ranking of Spain’s 50 busiest speed cameras.
Located on the MA-20 ring road at kilometre 10 near Valle Inclan, it issued 20,320 speeding tickets during 2025, down from 33,061 in 2024.
Of the 11 busiest speed cameras in Andalucia, three are located in Malaga province, more than in any other province.
