A fast-moving wildfire that broke out in Barbate has been stabilised overnight after forcing the evacuation of residents.
The blaze erupted on Tuesday in the Los Visos area, behind the town’s industrial estate and close to La Brena Natural Park.
As a precaution, authorities began evacuating homes in the Veteranos and Ribera de la Oliva areas, along with other nearby properties threatened by smoke and advancing flames.
Around 50 Infoca firefighters were battling the wildfire on the ground, supported by two fire engines and a major aerial operation including 10 aircraft.
The response included two medium helicopters, a heavy helicopter, a command helicopter, four light amphibious firefighting planes and a coordination aircraft.
Firefighters from Barbate were assisted by crews from Benalup, Conil and Chiclana, as well as a heavy support vehicle from Cadiz.
A stretch of the A-314 road between Barbate and Vejer was temporarily closed.
The operation also involved Civil Protection volunteers and Barbate Local Police, who were coordinating evacuations and public safety measures.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and firefighting efforts remain ongoing.
