Estepona is expanding its network of free public sports facilities with the construction of two new padel courts in Nueva Atalaya.

The courts are being constructed on a 400-square-metre plot alongside a multi-purpose sports pitch used for five-a-side football, basketball and other activities.

According to Estepona Town Hall, construction is progressing well, with ground preparation already complete after workers laid and compacted the base of the site.

Teams are now installing underground ducting around the perimeter for lighting and irrigation systems before work begins on the reinforced concrete foundations.

The next stage will see the concrete slab poured before construction of the courts themselves gets underway.

The project has a budget of €124,503.57 (including VAT) and forms part of the council’s wider strategy to improve sports facilities in neighbourhoods on the outskirts of Estepona.

Town Hall officials say the new courts are intended to increase opportunities for residents to play sport, encourage social integration and meet growing demand for padel, which continues to surge in popularity across the Costa del Sol.

Once completed, the new facilities will further expand Estepona’s network of free outdoor sports amenities, offering residents another place to play one of Spain’s fastest-growing sports without paying court hire fees.
