A climber has died after plunging around 50 metres into a ravine in El Torcal de Antequera, one of the province’s most popular outdoor climbing spots.
The incident happened at around midday on Saturday in an area known as Nacimiento de la Villa.
The victim was descending a steep rock face when she fell, becoming trapped in a narrow crevice in a hard-to-reach section of the gorge.
A companion raised the alarm, prompting a major emergency response.
Two helicopters were sent to the scene, one from the regional 061 health service and another from the Guardia Civil, including its specialist mountain rescue unit based in Alora.
Rescue teams, supported by firefighters from the Malaga Provincial Consortium, recovered the body at the scene. Her death was confirmed shortly afterwards.
The identity of the climber has not yet been released.
