Two men have been arrested in Benalmadena after officers discovered a loaded firearm concealed inside their vehicle during a routine police checkpoint.
The arrests were made by the Policia Nacional at around 7pm on April 9, it emerged today, in the upper part of the Costa del Sol town, near access roads to the A-7 in El Higueron.
Officers had set up a standard traffic control when they stopped a car carrying two men of Turkish origin.
Initial checks quickly raised suspicions, reports La Opinion de Malaga.
Police found the driver did not have a valid licence and that some of the documents presented were false.
A more thorough search of the vehicle then uncovered a pistol hidden in a modified compartment inside the glove box.
The weapon, identified as an Austrian-made Glock, was loaded.
Both occupants were immediately arrested and taken to a police station for identification, where it was confirmed they had prior records for similar offences.
They are now under investigation for illegal possession of weapons, document forgery and offences against road safety.
