An Argentinian woman who travelled to Spain to meet her baby nephew has been confirmed among those killed in the Toledo rail disaster.
Ana Martina Conte Grand, 33, from San Juan, had been missing since Wednesday’s collision. A relative confirmed that her body had been located after several days of searching.
She was travelling in carriage seven alongside her brother Jeremias, 36, who survived but suffered serious injuries and fractures. He was taken to Toledo University Hospital for treatment.
Before the official confirmation, Jeremias had described seeing his sister apparently lifeless immediately after the impact.
‘I turned around. I saw my sister and she was already dead,’ he told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
He said he asked rescuers to attend to her after noticing that she was not breathing.
‘I saw her dead. I no longer have any hope of finding her. To me, she is not missing,’ he said during the interview.

Ana Martina had travelled to Spain with her parents to visit Jeremias and meet his four-month-old son.
Her disappearance prompted an anxious wait for relatives back in San Juan, while her mother, Claudia Viberti, and her brother awaited news and the recovery of her body.
Jeremias remains in hospital recovering from his injuries.
The collision occurred near Urda, in Toledo province, when a Renfe AVE struck the rear of an Iryo train that was stationary on the tracks.
