A Policia Nacional officer from Sevilla has been confirmed among those killed in the Toledo rail disaster.
Ivan Romano Ramos, 42, from Alcala de Guadaira, had been reported missing following Wednesday’s collision near Urda.
His death has now been confirmed by his hometown’s mayor Ana Isabel Jimenez Contreras and the Policia Nacional.
The town hall expressed its ‘deep sorrow’ and offered condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
‘Alcala de Guadaira shares your pain and remains by your side. Rest in peace,’ its statement said.
The Policia Nacional said Ivan would have been proud of Jose Luis, Noelia and Carmela, three fellow officers who helped during the tragedy.
‘He would have been a fourth police officer helping,’ it said.
Police unions also shared messages of grief and support for those closest to him.
Jupol offered its ‘deepest and most heartfelt condolences’, saying there were no words capable of easing such a loss.
‘Ivan, rest in peace. We will never forget you,’ the union wrote.
The Federal Police Union, UFP, also sent condolences to his family and friends.
