A 31-year-old scientist has been confirmed dead following the Toledo train disaster.
Tamara Gonzalez Costa, from Leon, was travelling in carriage eight of the Renfe AVE involved in Wednesday’s collision.
She worked at Vienna’s Institute of Molecular Biotechnology.
Her cousin, Nerea Gonzalez, confirmed her death in a message thanking everyone who had shared appeals and supported the family during their search.
‘They have been three days of pure agony, ending with the worst possible outcome,’ she wrote.

Meanwhile, fellow Spanish scientist Marta Shahbazi remained missing at the time of publishing.
The Medical Research Council’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, where she works, said it was maintaining close contact with her family as they worked with authorities in Spain.
The institute expressed concern for Marta and offered support to her relatives, friends and colleagues.
According to Spanish media reports, she had been travelling to collect an award for scientific excellence at a Spanish Society for Developmental Biology conference in El Rompido, Huelva.
The Cambridge laboratory conducts research into fundamental biological processes and works closely with the University of Cambridge.
