The Guardia Civil has urged drivers to take extra care following Sunday’s clock change.
Clocks went back from 3am to 2am on mainland Spain in the early hours of October 25, marking the switch to winter time.
‘We have gained an hour of rest, but from today it will get dark an hour earlier,’ the force said in a message on X.
Officers advised motorists to adapt their driving to reduced daylight, check their vehicle’s lights and remain alert to glare and possible drowsiness.
The warning also called on pedestrians and cyclists to make themselves visible, particularly when travelling along road shoulders or roads outside built-up areas at dusk.
The Guardia Civil highlighted the importance of reflective clothing to help drivers spot vulnerable road users as daylight fades.
‘Your safety is not a matter of time, but prevention,’ the force said.
