An octogenarian has died after drowning at a popular beach on the Costa del Sol.
The tragedy occurred at Playa La Verdad in Benalmadena early on Saturday morning.
The 112 emergency service received a report that a person had suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.
Paramedics were dispatched to the scene but were unable to revive him.
Benalmadena Town Hall confirmed the death and said initial investigations indicated that the man had drowned.
According to the council, the victim was discovered before the beach rescue, lifeguard and medical service had begun its daily operations.
