Two dogs have been rescued after being abandoned beside the A-7 motorway in Almeria, with one of the animals reportedly tied to a crash barrier.

Local Police in Balanegra were called to the motorway after the emergency services received reports that two dogs had been left dangerously close to the busy road.

When officers arrived, they discovered one dog roaming loose while the other had been tied to the metal crash barrier.

The situation posed a serious danger not only to the animals but also to motorists, as the loose dog could have strayed onto the carriageway and caused an accident.

Both animals were also showing signs of dehydration after apparently spending a prolonged period exposed to high temperatures without access to water.

Officers secured the dogs and removed them from the roadside before taking them to safety.

The animals are now receiving appropriate care and are waiting to be adopted by a responsible family, according to the Local Police.

Authorities have not said who abandoned the animals or whether anyone has been identified in connection with the incident.

Balanegra Local Police urged members of the public to contact the emergency services whenever they encounter an animal in danger, particularly when its presence could also pose a threat to road safety.
