The PSOE is considering legal action after the Partido Popular created a series of AI-generated videos of Pedro Sanchez’s wife and other party figures.
The clips, published on the PP’s social media accounts on Wednesday night, mocks the Socialists’ ‘Left-wing and proud’ campaign.
It depicts the PM’s wife Begoña Gomez, former prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, former transport minister Jose Luis Abalos and other Socialist figures making statements about alleged wrongdoing.
The AI-generated Gomez is made to claim that she obtained a university chair because her husband is prime minister.
Meanwhile, an AI version of former PSOE organisation secretary Santos Cerdan refers to taking kickbacks and belonging to a criminal gang.
Another sequence depicts Zapatero discussing jewellery hidden in a safe, while former party spokeswoman Montse Minguez is portrayed talking about her partner’s property holdings.
According to Cadena SER, PSOE lawyers are assessing whether the video’s creation and publication could constitute an offence or administrative infringement.
The party has not announced a specific legal route. Options under consideration include court proceedings or complaints to Spain’s data protection authority or its AI supervisory agency.
The dispute comes ahead of the November 29 general election, putting the use of AI-generated political content under fresh scrutiny.
