This is the terrifying moment a group of Spanish soldiers were ambushed by masked attackers while watching the World Cup final Spain.
The thugs used metal bars and extendable batons to launch their brutal assault on the group in Berriozar, near Pamplona.
CCTV footage caught the moment at least six people were injured in the violence, including three military personnel.
One soldier suffered an open head wound and several broken ribs, while a woman sustained a fractured nose.
The attack happened at around 10.15pm on Sunday at a bar reportedly frequented by personnel from the nearby Aizoain military barracks.
The soldiers had gathered with other customers on the terrace to watch Spain’s final against Argentina when a group of around 10 hooded people suddenly arrived.
Witness accounts suggest the attackers moved in together before heading directly towards the table occupied by the military personnel.
Some of the injured were treated at the scene, while others had to be taken to hospital.
The attackers fled before officers arrived and no arrests have yet been made.
The gang also caused damage to the bar’s windows and outdoor furniture during the assault.
Spain’s Guardia Civil and Navarra’s regional police are jointly investigating the incident, which has now been referred to the courts.
Politicians condemn ‘violence and intolerance’
Navarra’s deputy president, Javier Remirez, issued an unequivocal condemnation of the attack.
‘On a night of happiness and coexistence, there is no place for violence and intolerance,’ he said.
Berriozar mayor Iker Mariezkurrena, of EH Bildu, said the incident should never have happened in the town and appealed for democratic coexistence and respect.
He also expressed concern about the reported appearance of neo-Nazi symbols in the municipality, although investigators have not publicly confirmed the motive for the assault.
EH Bildu separately condemned attacks on Spain supporters across the Basque Country and Navarra while reiterating its support for a Basque national team competing internationally through peaceful and democratic means.
The regional branches of the conservative Partido Popular and UPN described the attack as politically motivated radical violence, with PPN secretary-general Sergio Sayas calling it an act of ‘savagery’.
Police have not yet identified the attackers or confirmed whether the soldiers were targeted because of their profession, their support for Spain, or another motive.
