A 55-year-old man has become the fourth victim of extreme temperatures in Sevilla this summer after dying from heatstroke.
The man died on Saturday at the Virgen Macarena Hospital after collapsing at his home in Cantillana, Sevilla province, on July 1.
His death brings the number of heat-related fatalities in Andalucia this summer to five, according to the Junta.
Health officials said the man had pre-existing medical conditions that placed him in a high-risk category under Andalucia’s 2026 protocol for protecting people during periods of extreme heat.
The latest death comes as the region continues to experience repeated heatwaves, with fresh weather warnings issued for parts of Andalucia this coming week.
Since the start of the high-temperature season, health services have treated 1,081 heat-related emergencies across the region.
Of those, 747 were dealt with in primary care and 334 required hospital treatment.
Authorities have also recorded 18 confirmed cases of heatstroke, all of which required hospital admission. Seven patients remain in hospital, while five have now died.
The other heat-related deaths recorded this summer include a 59-year-old woman who died in Sevilla on July 9, a 48-year-old man who died in Sevilla on July 8, a 71-year-old woman who died in Sanlucar la Mayor on July 3, and a 68-year-old man who died in Almeria on June 23.
