A distraught mother in Sevilla has accused her ex-partner of killing her baby because he was jealous of the attention she gave the child.

It comes after the infant died on Friday at the Virgen del Rocio Hospital, where she had been receiving specialist care for severe burns over the past two months.

The child’s mother, Andrea Burdalo, has now publicly shared her account of what happened and claimed the injuries were inflicted during a bath.

According to Burdalo, speaking to Canal Sur, her daughter was burned by hot water while being bathed.

She alleges that her partner’s actions were motivated by jealousy over the attention she devoted to the baby.

The mother also claimed the jealousy extended to the contact she maintained with the child’s biological father.

The family has pointed to Burdalo’s partner as the alleged perpetrator, although the claims currently reflect the mother’s version of events and have not been tested in court.

The baby had remained hospitalised for approximately two months following the incident before succumbing to her injuries on Friday.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the investigation or any potential criminal proceedings linked to the case.

The circumstances surrounding the child’s death remain under investigation.
