Heavy rain has caused traffic delays on the AP-4 motorway in Sevilla after nearby streams burst their banks.
Andalucia’s emergency agency, EMA, issued a warning on Sunday urging drivers to take particular care near El Cuervo and follow instructions from emergency services.
The affected motorway links Sevilla with Jerez and Cadiz.
‘Rain is causing tailbacks due to overflowing streams,’ the agency said in a message on X.
Drivers have been urged to reduce their speed, increase the gap to the vehicle ahead and use dipped headlights in poor conditions.
EMA also warned motorists never to attempt to cross flooded stretches of road and to avoid sudden braking.
The agency highlighted the risk of aquaplaning, when water prevents tyres from maintaining contact with the road.
Motorists should check their tyres and windscreen wipers before setting off.
The disruption comes as heavy rain and thunderstorms are affecting much of Andalucia, with emergency services responding to flooding and other weather-related incidents across the region.
The EMA warning did not specify the length of the queues or announce a full closure of the motorway.
