The Guardia Civil is calling on the public to help raise the next generation of police dogs – and they want families to step forward.
In a post shared on social media, the force’s canine unit announced it is looking for ‘brave and committed’ households to take part in its latest initiative, known as Plan Fenix 2026.
The programme involves fostering young puppies that will eventually go on to become working dogs, trained for roles including detection, security and search operations.
The appeal comes as a new group of ‘cadets’ – adorable black puppies – begin their journey within the Guardia Civil’s canine service.
Families selected for the scheme will play a key role in the dogs’ early development, helping them adapt to home life and social environments before they begin formal training.
The force has set a deadline of May 15, 2026, for applications, urging anyone interested to check the requirements and apply.
Images shared alongside the appeal show officers proudly holding the young pups, highlighting both the softer and more human side of one of Spain’s most recognisable security forces.

While the job may sound appealing, it comes with responsibility – the Guardia Civil is specifically looking for committed homes capable of supporting the early stages of what will become highly trained working animals.
For dog lovers, though, it could be a rare chance to play a direct role in shaping Spain’s future four-legged officers.
