The Guardia Civil has reminded drivers to signal before leaving a roundabout.
‘Are you leaving a roundabout? Have you let anyone know?’ the force asked in a road safety message published on Wednesday.
It explained that the right-hand indicator allows other motorists to anticipate a driver’s exit, helping them understand what is about to happen.
Drivers should signal in good time, check that they can leave safely and respect the priority of vehicles already travelling in the outside lane.
‘The indicator does not give you priority. But it helps others understand your intentions,’ the Guardia Civil said.
The reminder addresses a familiar source of confusion on Spain’s multi-lane roundabouts: attempting to exit directly from an inner lane across the path of another vehicle.

Spain’s traffic authority, the DGT, advises drivers to move into the outside lane before leaving a conventional roundabout.
If traffic prevents them from moving across safely before their exit, they should go around again and position themselves correctly rather than cut across another lane.
Lane changes must also be signalled, with priority given to vehicles already occupying the lane a driver wants to enter.
The DGT also advises against leaving an indicator flashing simply to show that a vehicle is continuing around the roundabout without changing lanes or exiting.
