A man who was gored in the chest during a bull-running event in Arcos de la Frontera has died after spending 12 days in intensive care.
The local resident, described as ‘young’, suffered critical injuries when a bull named Cumbrerito struck him during the Toro del Barrio Bajo on October 24.
He lived in the town’s Barriada de la Paz neighbourhood.
Mayor Miguel Rodriguez expressed his condolences to the family on Thursday.
‘We are deeply sorry this has happened,’ he said.
The event was organised by the Peña Taurina del Toro del Aleluya with support from Arcos Town Hall.
Cumbrerito was the first of two bulls released through the streets of the Barrio Bajo neighbourhood that day.
The event had the required authorisation from the Junta de Andalucia.
The Toro del Barrio Bajo is a relatively recent addition to the town’s calendar and has taken place twice in 2026.
An edition held in January replaced the 2025 event, which had been postponed because of rain. The second took place last month.
Arcos also holds the longer-established Toro del Aleluya on Easter Sunday, drawing large numbers of residents and visitors.
