A pleasure boat carrying more than a tonne of cocaine has been intercepted off a tourist beach in Cadiz.
Guardia Civil officers seized 1,015kg of the drug in 28 bales during an operation on the afternoon of Monday, October 12.
The shipment was reportedly worth more than €10 million.
The force confirmed the interception took place off Chipiona and said the investigation remained open. No details of arrests were provided.
The seizure comes as authorities warn traffickers are using leisure boats as part of their cocaine supply routes into Andalucia.
Spain’s government delegate in the region, Pedro Fernandez, recently explained that shipments arriving across the Atlantic are transferred offshore to speedboats, which then distribute the drugs among other vessels, including pleasure boats.
He said police pressure had reduced the number of trafficking speedboats reaching the coastline directly, with transfers instead taking place out at sea, sometimes in international waters.
Officers seized 29.4 tonnes of cocaine between January and August across the six Andalucian provinces covered by the special anti-trafficking plan for the Campo de Gibraltar.
That eight-month haul was equivalent to 78.7% of the total seized during the whole of 2025, according to figures released by the Government Delegation.
The plan covers every Andalucian province except Cordoba and Jaen.
