A British expat has been charged with fraud and a money laundering offence after allegedly diverting £30,000 from his employer.
The 59-year-old Manilva resident, identified only as P. M., is accused of transferring funds from a Gibraltar company into his personal bank account.
The Royal Gibraltar Police’s Economic Crime Unit launched an investigation in April after the business reported suspicions about one of its employees.
The suspect misappropriated approximately £30,000 and later used the money, police allege.
He faces one count of fraud by abuse of position and another of using criminal property, a money laundering offence.
The suspect was initially arrested on suspicion of fraud-related offences before officers carried out several months of enquiries.
He was charged on Wednesday afternoon, October 14, and held overnight at New Mole House police headquarters ahead of a scheduled appearance at Gibraltar Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
He will now await his day in court.
