The body of an unidentified caucasian man has been recovered off the coast of Granada.
The corpse was found with a hole in the skull that investigators believe could be a gunshot wound.
The remains were spotted on the morning of October 9 in waters below a cliff at Zacatin beach in Calahonda.
Officers from the Guardia Civil’s provincial maritime service recovered the body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition.
It was taken to Granada’s Institute of Legal Medicine for a post-mortem examination.
An initial forensic assessment identified a hole in the skull that could be consistent with an injury caused by a bullet.
However, further tests are needed to establish the origin of the wound and the circumstances of his death.
Investigators are also working to identify the man, who has so far only been described as white.
The Guardia Civil investigation remains open pending the results of forensic and identification tests.
