This is the moment far-right marchers clashed with housing protesters in the centre of Madrid on Monday.
Footage shared on X showed the confrontation unfold as crowds made their way towards the central Puerta del Sol following the National Day military parade, held nearby on Paseo del Prado.
According to Cadena SER, a group of demonstrators began surrounding sections of the square, where thousands of people have been camping to demand action over soaring housing costs.
Some carried flags associated with the Franco-era dictatorship, while others made fascist salutes.
Policia Nacional officers were deployed to prevent the opposing groups from coming into direct contact.
Housing campaigners formed a protective cordon around their encampment, chanting: ‘Here are the anti-fascists.’
From the opposing side, demonstrators shouted insults against Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and chanted ‘If you’re not jumping, you’re a red’, a slogan directed at political opponents on the left.
Officers moved to separate the groups around the entrances to Espoz y Mina and Carrera de San Jeronimo, which leads towards the route of the military parade.
The housing protest has occupied Puerta del Sol for several days, becoming a focal point of growing public frustration over the cost of accommodation in Spain.
On October 7, a court rejected an attempt by Madrid’s regional government, led by Isabel Diaz Ayuso, to impose precautionary measures against the encampment, allowing it to remain in place.
Monday’s confrontation came amid heightened political tensions ahead of Spain’s general election on November 29.
There were no immediate reports of arrests or injuries.
