Some 15 Local Police officers in Alhaurin de la Torre have launched legal proceedings over alleged unpaid salary supplements.
The officers, represented by the Professional Union of Municipal Police Officers of Spain (SPPME), accuse the town hall of failing to address longstanding financial grievances.
The first officer is due to appear before Malaga’s administrative court on Thursday (October 15), following a claim concerning an allegedly unpaid productivity bonus dating back to June 2024.
Further hearings are scheduled throughout October and November.
According to the union, 15 officers from a workforce of more than 20 have taken their complaints to court, highlighting the scale of discontent within the force.
The dispute recently spilled into public view when a majority of officers boycotted an official ceremony honouring the patron saint of the Local Police.
The union insisted the absence was not intended as a slight against fellow officers, particularly those receiving awards and commendations.
‘It was not against our colleagues,’ the organisation said, describing the protest as the result of dissatisfaction that had been building for too long.
The SPPME has called for negotiations to resolve the dispute before further legal action becomes necessary.
Meanwhile, the Ayuntamiento of Alhaurin de la Torre Town expressed regret over the officers’ absence from what it described as an important day of celebration and recognition.

Council officials argued that trade union protests should be kept separate from official ceremonies honouring police personnel.
Regarding the legal proceedings, the local authority declined to comment on the substance of the financial claims, saying they would be dealt with through the appropriate administrative and judicial channels.
The council nevertheless reiterated its support for the professionalism and work of its Local Police officers.
