Steve Lyons has allegedly ordered his men to take revenge for the double murder of his brother and an associate on the Costa del Sol while sitting in a prison cell in Andalucia.
The Scottish crime boss is alleged to have instructed associates to target the leadership of the rival Daniel crime clan, according to claims reported by Scotland’s Daily Record.
The reported order comes more than a year after Eddie Lyons Jr – Steven’s brother – and Ross Monaghan were shot dead in Fuengirola on May 31, 2025.
The pair were gunned down at the Monaghan’s bar following the Champions League final, bringing a notorious Scottish underworld feud directly to the Costa del Sol.
Despite a major international investigation, arrests and raids targeting the alleged Lyons organisation, the feud between the Lyons and Daniel clans, which stretches back more than 25 years, appears far from over.
‘He wants to finish this war’
A criminal underworld source quoted by the Daily Record claimed Lyons wants the leadership of the rival clan ‘eliminated for good.’
He allegedly holds two men linked to the rival group responsible for the Fuengirola murders, both of whom are reportedly in hiding.
The source claimed Lyons had managed to pass instructions to his associates following his arrest and that his men had no intention of backing down.
Michael Riley, a 44-year-old man from Liverpool, is currently being held at Teixeiro prison in A Coruña while awaiting trial in connection with the double murder in Fuengirola.
Machete attacks in Scotland
The reports of a revenge order follow a series of violent incidents targeting people or businesses allegedly connected to the Daniel clan in Scotland.
Last month, machete-wielding men allegedly stormed a property on Curzon Street in Maryhill while searching for Ronnie Daniel, 41, leaving the home badly damaged.
That same morning, Robert Daniel, 51, was reportedly chased near his home in Stepps.
Kelvinside Motor Company in Kirkintilloch, north of Glasgow, was also targeted twice during August. A former director of the business, Francis ‘Fraggle’ Green, has been described in Scottish reporting as a significant figure linked to the Daniel clan.
One incident allegedly involved machete-wielding attackers, while a burnt-out vehicle was subsequently discovered nearby.
Other incidents under investigation include a vehicle being driven into a property linked to Billy Steele and vehicles being set alight at another garage.
Cocaine deal reignited feud
The Lyons-Daniel feud stretches back more than 25 years, although violence escalated again during 2025.
According to the Scottish reporting, one trigger for the latest escalation was a failed £500,000 cocaine deal involving the handing over of counterfeit money.
Steven Lyons was arrested in Bali in March 2026 following an international alert.
He is now being held in Andalucia awaiting trial over alleged drug trafficking and money laundering offences.
Spanish authorities also want him in connection with an alleged murder dating from 2024.
Investigators believe imprisonment may not have entirely severed his ability to influence the organisation, with associates allegedly entrusted to continue operations while he remains behind bars.
200 images of alleged torture
The alleged group’s links to Fuengirola took an even darker turn during searches carried out as part of the international investigation.
More than 200 photographs apparently depicting beatings, torture, mutilations and killings were discovered hidden among furniture inside a Fuengirola property linked to the investigation.
The images reportedly showed people with broken limbs and severe head injuries, as well as corpses and dismembered bodies.
Spanish Guardia Civil officers and Scottish detectives began working together to identify the people pictured.
One theory being considered by investigators was that the images had been circulated within the organisation as proof that violent attacks had been carried out.
