High-speed rail operator Iryo is planning a major expansion of its services in Andalucia in 2027, it has announced.

The private operator will substantially increase the number of trains connecting southern Spain with Madrid as it expands its nationwide capacity by almost 14%.

The Madrid-Malaga route will see the largest increase, with Iryo planning to boost operations by around 63.7% to 3,514 services during 2027.

Services between Madrid and Sevilla will increase by 39% to 3,884, providing passengers with significantly more options for travelling between the Spanish capital and Andalucia.

Cordoba will also benefit, with Iryo planning a 40.8% increase in activity and 2,779 additional stops during the year.

The expansion follows a difficult 2026 for rail connections in Andalucia, when Iryo was forced to adapt its schedules following disruption caused by the Adamuz rail accident in Cordoba and a landslide at Alora in Malaga.

The normalisation of the affected routes will allow the company to restore frequencies and introduce additional services as part of its 2027 expansion.

Across Spain, Iryo has now announced the opening of ticket sales for next year, with 22,764 services planned, some 2,762 more than in 2026.

That represents a 13.8% increase in operational capacity.

The expansion will be supported by the addition of three new trains to Iryo’s fleet, which will be deployed to strengthen services on some of its most important routes.

Madrid-Barcelona will remain one of its busiest corridors, with another 239 operations taking the annual total to more than 7,740.

Some of the most dramatic percentage increases will occur at intermediate stations.

Ciudad Real and Puertollano will each see 1,834 additional stops, an increase of 207.4%, while Zaragoza will receive 10.2% more services and Albacete 12.9% more.

Iryo is also targeting business travellers by increasing the number of trains operating early in the morning and late in the afternoon and evening.
