Hundreds of workers have been evacuated from Madrid’s Torre Moeve after a fire broke out on one of the upper floors of the skyscraper.
The blaze was reported shortly after 5pm and is believed to have started in a technical room on the 25th floor of the building, one of the capital’s famous Four Towers business district landmarks.
Emergency services ordered the evacuation of the tower within minutes as firefighters rushed to the scene, after witnesses reported hearing an ‘explosion’.
Madrid firefighters successfully extinguished the flames and later confirmed that all smoke had been cleared from the affected floor.
Authorities said there were no fatalities and no one was reported missing at any stage of the incident.
Three workers remained temporarily confined on separate floors while firefighters ventilated the building, but were never considered to be in danger and were later safely evacuated.
Three people treated
Paramedics treated two workers for mild smoke inhalation at the scene. Both were discharged without needing hospital treatment.
A passer-by also received medical attention after suffering an anxiety attack while witnessing the incident.
Witnesses described seeing a large plume of smoke rising from the skyscraper, prompting a major emergency response involving firefighters, police and medical teams.
A police helicopter was deployed to monitor the situation from the air while officers secured the surrounding area.
Workers were subsequently allowed back into the building to collect personal belongings, although it remains unclear whether offices will reopen on Wednesday.
Some employees told local media they only realised there was a fire after smelling smoke, claiming the alarm was not particularly loud.
Many staff members were expected to finish the working day remotely from home.
The incident marks the second fire at Torre Moeve in just over six months.
In December 2025, another blaze in a basement transformer room also prompted a precautionary evacuation of the building, although no injuries were reported.
Designed by renowned British architect Norman Foster and opened in 2009, Torre Moeve stands 248 metres tall, making it Spain’s second-highest building.
The skyscraper is owned by Pontegadea, the investment vehicle of Amancio Ortega, and houses the headquarters of energy company Moeve alongside offices used by major firms including Amazon.
