A teenage student has died after a motorbike crash in Torrox, in a tragedy that has deeply shaken the local community.
The victim, who was studying in his final year of secondary school at IES Jorge Guillen, died after the accident in the early hours of Friday morning.
Emergency services received the first alerts shortly before 3am, reporting that a motorcycle had crashed into a kerb on Calle Rabitilla.
Despite the rapid response, the young rider, named locally as Javier, could not be saved.
The school has since issued an emotional statement, describing the death as ‘another great tragedy’ for the community.
Staff and classmates paid tribute to a student remembered for his humour, kindness and strong friendships.
They recalled everyday moments that defined him – from walking the school corridors to taking part in a recent fancy dress event – highlighting ‘his spontaneity, his good heart, his joy and his companionship.’
The loss is made even more painful by the fact that the school had already suffered a devastating blow earlier this academic year, when two siblings and their parents passed away.
Torrox mayor Oscar Medina also expressed his condolences, saying the town is ‘deeply affected’ by the death.
‘The loss of such a young life is a blow that is hard to accept,’ he said, offering support to the victim’s family, friends and the entire school community.
The tragedy comes just hours after another fatal accident in the Axarquia area. On Thursday afternoon, a young motorcyclist died in nearby Nerja after losing control of his bike and crashing into a tree on a rural road near the Chillar river.
