A young cyclist has died after veering off the road while travelling home from work in Nerja.
The 26-year-old, named only by his initials A.J, is said to be ‘well known’ in Frigiliana, where he was from.
The accident happened at around 4.10pm on Thursday on a concrete access road linking Calle Mirto with the riverbed in Rio Chillar, reports Diario Sur.
According to sources cited by the newspaper, he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a tree.
He was wearing a helmet at the time but still suffered fatal injuries due to the severity of the impact.
Emergency services, including paramedics, Guardia Civil officers and Nerja Local Police, rushed to the scene.
Medics spent more than two hours attempting to resuscitate him, but were ultimately unable to save his life.
An air ambulance was also deployed, although it was not used.
The incident has caused deep shock in both Nerja and Frigiliana, where the young man was well known.
According to reports, he had just finished work on a nearby agricultural property and was returning home.
His father, who had been working with him, was travelling in another vehicle at the time.
The road where the crash occurred is a secondary route commonly used by local residents and agricultural workers to access rural properties.
The investigation continues.
