This is the moment a knifeman was arrested after trying to take refuge in a church following a stabbing in Marbella.
The suspect, armed with two knives, was cuffed on Tuesday afternoon after allegedly stabbing someone in broad daylight in the middle of the street.
The incident unfolded just after 3pm on Calle Serenata. Witnesses reported seeing a man stab another person before fleeing the scene.
Roughly 300 metres from the attack, the suspect sought shelter inside the Divina Pastora parish on Avenida Europa.
When officers arrived, the man was shirtless, visibly agitated and possibly suffering from mental health issues. He was still clutching at least one knife.
According to the parish priest, who spoke to Diario Sur, he approached the man and managed to calm him down while waiting for the police to intervene.
‘He’s a regular here,’ the priest said. ‘I’ve never seen him act violently before.’
But some neighbours paint a different picture, with one claiming they had seen the man days earlier walking the streets with a blade.
Police quickly subdued and detained the suspect inside the church. The victim’s condition has not yet been disclosed.
