A man suspected of gunning down two Scots on the Costa del Sol has been arrested in Liverpool, Spanish police confirmed on Saturday.
The dramatic takedown by UK authorities came on Friday afternoon, after the Policia Nacional issued a European Arrest Warrant via Fuengirola’s Court of Instruction No. 2.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to piece together exactly what unfolded on the seafront in Fuengirola that day.
The chilling attack occurred on May 31, when a masked gunman stepped out of a vehicle and opened fire on a group of people at a bar on the Rey de España promenade – one of the town’s main tourist strips.
He then fled, leaving two men fatally wounded.

The victims, believed to be Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr., both reportedly linked to Glasgow’s notorious Lyons crime family, were shot multiple times in what investigators suspect was a drug-related hit.
Monaghan was hit in the chest and abdomen; Lyons in the chest. A third person was initially believed to be injured, though this was later ruled out.
Witnesses – more than a dozen of them, according to local reports – watched in horror as bullets flew near the Martin Playa beach bar, a usually peaceful spot popular with British holidaymakers.
Sources close to the case told Malaga Hoy that both victims had criminal records related to drug trafficking back in Scotland.
Spanish and British law enforcement believe the killing may be part of a long-running feud between the Lyons and their bitter rivals, the Daniels clan – two Glaswegian gangs whose vendettas have spilled far beyond the UK.
Police, including officers from the National and Local Police as well as Guardia Civil units, swarmed the scene alongside emergency medics, but there was little they could do for the two men.
The arrest in Liverpool marks a major breakthrough in the case, but police stress the investigation is far from over as they continue to probe who ordered the hit and why.
