DNA samples are being collected from relatives to help identify victims of the Toledo train disaster.
Footage shared by the Guardia Civil shows samples being analysed in a laboratory after at least 69 people were confirmed dead.
The force said specialists were working as quickly as possible and confirmed that four offices have been established where families can report missing passengers and provide DNA samples.
It also warned families about fake messages claiming their loved ones’ bodies have been identified.
In Sevilla, relatives can attend the Guardia Civil’s regional headquarters at Avenida de la Borbolla, 8. In Cordoba, samples are being collected at the provincial headquarters at Avenida Medina Azahara, 2.
The other offices are at Avenida Barber, 42, in Toledo, and Calle Batalla del Salado, 32, in Madrid.
Alongside the identification work, officers issued a warning to families receiving suspicious text messages.
The Guardia Civil stressed that it is not sending SMS messages or other electronic notifications to inform relatives that a victim has been identified.
These notifications will always be delivered personally and in person by its officers.
Families who have already attended one of the designated offices will be contacted when news becomes available.
The force urged anyone receiving a text claiming their relative’s body had been identified to distrust the message.
