Blood donors are being urged to come forward as hospitals receive people injured in the Urda train collision in Toledo.
The blood donors’ association in Alcazar de San Juan says donations will be accepted continuously until 8pm today at Hospital Mancha Centro.
All blood groups are needed, but the hospital has asked volunteers to stagger their visits throughout the day rather than arrive together.
Donors should go to the hospital and ask for the blood donation point. The address is Avenida de la Constitucion, 3, Alcazar de San Juan.
Contact numbers supplied with the appeal are 926 580 527 and 609 328 209.
The appeal invites healthy adults aged 18 to 65 who weigh at least 50kg to attend. Donation staff will assess individual eligibility.
Meanwhile, Castilla-La Mancha’s health service, SESCAM, has urged people to use the hospital’s emergency department only when strictly necessary.
Those with less serious conditions are asked to attend the Punto de Atencion Continuada (PAC) in Alcazar de San Juan, helping keep hospital resources available for casualties.
Hospitals in Toledo, Alcazar de San Juan and Ciudad Real have also suspended non-urgent operations to prioritise treatment of those injured in the crash.
Firefighters from Alcazar de San Juan are among the emergency teams working at the scene.
