Andalucia’s president Juanma Moreno has branded the train collision in Toledo ‘another nightmare’ after the death toll reached 46 on Wednesday morning.
His response came as Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he was ‘shocked’ by the accident involving Renfe and Iryo trains on the Madrid–Andalucia high-speed line.
‘Very concerned about the new railway accident on the line between Madrid and Andalucia in Toledo province. A horror. Another nightmare,’ Moreno wrote on X.
‘Andalucia stands ready to help with whatever is needed to care for the victims.’
The incident follows the deadly Adamuz collision in January of this year, which saw 46 people killed in the Andalucia town near Cordoba.

Sanchez said he remained in constant contact with Transport Minister Oscar Puente and Castilla-La Mancha president Emiliano Garcia-Page.
‘Emergency services are working on the ground to assist those affected and ensure their safety, in coordination with all the authorities involved,’ the prime minister said.
‘My affection, solidarity and support go to all the victims and their families.’

Puente said he had been at the H24 control centre since 9.40am, gathering information about what had happened.
Opposition leader Alberto Nuñez Feijoo also expressed concern, saying the immediate priority was helping victims and supporting their families.
‘All my support to the emergency teams working on the ground,’ he wrote.
The collision prompted Adif to suspend high-speed services between Madrid and Andalucia, with emergency crews deployed to the scene near Urda.
